AlphaTheta DJM-V5: Flagship Sound in a Booth-Sized Mixer

For years, the warm, layered sound of AlphaTheta's flagship DJM-V10 came with two catches: a six-channel footprint that swallowed a booth, and a price to match. The DJM-V5 answers both. It takes the essence of the V10 and folds it into a compact three-channel mixer, priced at £1,739, that fits the kind of booths most working DJs actually play in.
The V-series sound, shrunk down. At roughly 30 percent smaller than the V10, the V5 keeps the parts that matter. It runs 96 kHz, 64-bit mixing and uses 32-bit ESS Technology converters on the inputs and master output, so the signal stays clean and full-bodied even when you stack several tracks on top of one another. This is a mixer built for layering rather than fast cutting.
Four-band EQ and a compressor on every channel. Most club mixers give you three EQ bands. The V5 adds a fourth for finer tonal control, and pairs it with a compressor on each channel. That compressor is the quiet hero here: it can breathe life back into an older, flatter recording or rein in a loud, aggressive master so everything sits together at a consistent level.
A new Cross-Pass Filter. Alongside the familiar high-pass and low-pass filters, the V5 introduces a Cross-Pass mode that shapes the mids and highs while leaving the low end intact. In practice that lets you lift a vocal or a melodic phrase out of a track without losing the bass that keeps the floor moving.
Expressive Send FX. Six send effects cover Short Delay, Reverb, Shimmer, Tape Echo, PingPong and Echo-Verb, and each can be dialled in per channel. The Time knob clicks into place at divisions of the track's tempo for rhythmic effects, or turns smoothly when you want something more atmospheric.
Faders built for smooth blends. The 60 mm long-throw channel faders are inherited from the V10-LF, giving you room for gradual, controlled fades. A new Soft Mix Curve mode gently eases off the high frequencies as a fader comes up, which takes the harsh edge off a transition and makes blends sound more natural.
Wireless monitoring, built in. The headline first is SonicLink, an ultra-low-latency wireless transmitter built into the mixer itself. Paired with compatible headphones such as the HDJ-F10, it lets you monitor without a headphone cable tethering you to the booth. Standard wired headphones still work through the normal output, so nothing is lost if you prefer a cable.
One honest caveat. There is no crossfader on the V5. This is a deliberate choice: it is a tonal, layering mixer aimed at house, techno and melodic styles, not a scratch mixer for turntablists. If your sets are built on cutting and scratching, or you need six channels and heavy outboard routing, the full-size DJM-V10 remains the better tool.
For everyone else, the V5 hits a sweet spot that has been missing for a long time: genuine V-series sound and precision in a mixer that suits smaller club booths and mobile rigs.
