The perfect sized party speaker, or portable dj monitor, the titan 8 active is light-weight, compact and has it's own built-in amplifier but only weighs 6kg per speaker! The titan 8 active features an 8" woofer and titanium compression horn tweeter, just like their bigger brothers (titan 12 & 15 actives), they also offer a high output, punchy low end and extended high frequency to suit all types of music and application. Weighing around 6kg per cabinet, the titan 8's come in an ultra-light-weight composite enclosure that's designed to be stand mounted, arrayed or even used as a floor monitor. The titans are versatile and rugged enough for indoor and outdoor use thanks to the moisture proof woofer design and polypropylene moulded cabinet. A sophisticated crossover, tweeter protection and a high frequency eq switch for long-throw applications finish of a compact, lightweight and affordable, professional speaker that suits house parties and bedroom sound systems with no additional amplifier required

Wharfedale y'say?

Recently one of the horns in my SRM450 decided to take it's turn, and didn't have time to have it repaired before upcoming gigs. I decided to get something small, cheap and cheerful to bridge the gap, but never really thought about going for the Wharfedales of all things. After being recommended and hearing the Titan range from a local dealer, I actually ordered a pair of Titan 8 passives to run off an old 400w KAM amp I have lying around. However, what I recieved was a pair of B-stock (but virtually brand new) Titan 8 Active speakers instead. At only 180w of power, I can't actually believe what these little beauties are capable of. Had a 15m x 10m hall on the Friday with them; first thing I noticed was that the bass response was phenomenal for such compact speakers. Sure, there was only so much they could handle before clipping, but at 96db 1w/1m, there was still plenty sound coming clearly through across the frequency spectrum, with no distortion whatsoever. The Saturday was an 18th in a local sports bar.. for which I decided I would accompany the Wharfedales with my RCF 705AS active sub; and the result was far from my expectations. With the RCF doing all the low end work, there was plenty of scope for the Titan 8s to really push the mid-highs - and they did it effortlessly without distorting, clipping, crapping out... the heatsinks were no more than warm (unlike the mackies, which you could fry an egg on after half an hour!). For speakers this size, there's a lot going for them. They're extremely small and lightweight, fitted with the standard 35mm pole mount, and seriously pack a punch for banging out the latest dance tunes. Only gripe so far is the mid range needs taming with a tweak of EQ, but otherwise there's nothing these things can't do! And for all of you that are about aesthetics, they not only look the part with their curvy black enclosure, but the active versions even have a bright blue power LED surrounding the HF driver. Snazzy! Finally, although I got more than I bargained for with the actives, I have asked myself; would I have paid the extra 200 for them? Absolutely - but you've got to hear them to believe them.
