VCI-380 is a two channel DJ controller with a built-in DJ mixer, powerful and creative, opening the door to limitless possibilities of controllerism. Mix, scratch, cue, effect, sample, trigger, loop and slice. Every feature of the VCI-380 is optimized to enhance the DJs performance and take a new approach in manipulating music. Designed hand in hand with Serato, VCI-380 is bundled with ITCH, providing an arsenal of musical craft tools with perfect integrity, straight out of the box.
The 2 x 8 banks of FSR trigger pads on the VCI-380 are jam packed with creative Performance Modes such as the Slicer, Roll, Sampler, Loop, Hot Cue and Pad FX. With the given features you can trigger cue points, samples, loops, slice up beats, and shoot off Pad FX together.
Pad FX creates amazing combinations to manipulate music in ways nobody else has before: holding each pad (aftertouch) will modify the FX parameter, along with triggering Performance Mode functions. FX are an essential tool to spice up your performance; in addition to Pad FX, each deck features classic FX controls. The Ribbon control on each deck alters the parameters of Pad FX, swipes, holds and needle drops tracks.
The legendary jog wheels from the Vestax VCI series have stepped up in their game with an advanced structure and larger platters for extra stability and smoothness. The platters of the VCI-380 are highly responsive, transmitting MIDI signals with extreme accuracy. The LED needle point embedded in the jog wheel provides excellent visual monitoring, indicating the decks playback position. The torque of the jog wheels can be adjusted to your preference, and as like all VCI series controllers you can pitch bend the track by touching the sides of the jog wheels.
The stand alone mixer function of the VCI-380 has great capacity for adaptability. The two hybrid channels are capable of mixing external devices such as CD players, turntables and MP3 players, together with tracks and samples Serato ITCH is playing. Each channel has an RCA Phono/Line input for limitless connection options, and the crossfader and input faders curve can be adjusted like any DJ mixer. Mixes with the input source can be tweaked with Trim, EQ and in addition, the FX knobs on each channel function as Hi-Pass filters, to add an extra touch to your performance.
The built in high quality 24Bit/48kHz audio interface based on technology developed with the critically acclaimed Vestax VCI-400, features BIT-Perfect audio powered by a studio grade asynchronous USB streaming system. This extremely advanced technology provides low latency, premium sound quality and outputs your mix, analog or digital, at its true clarity. Some say seeing is believing. For the VCI-380, listening is believing.

Awesome Machine

So, I already own the VCi-300 Mk1 & VFX-1 controllers. I tried to upgrade from those to the Numark NS6 and I hated it. I soon went back to my 300 and looked for plan B. That came along, when I saw the new VCi-380 controller. So I bought it. It's one slick looking deck. It is similar in size to the super portable VCi-300 - you can slip the 380 in your rucksack with your laptop in seconds and dash off to play a set at your mates houseparty! The platters are solid, with adjustable torque setting for scratching. There are LED indicators to show current record position, they're a great touch and come in very handy if you're ripping it up! The Pad-FX buttons feel right, they're comfortable to use, and feel quality... They're not tacky. Pressure sensitive for adding Pad-FX to the dicer / roll settings is a very nice touch. Everything is WELL laid out really, rotary EQs are in the right place, navigation of ITCH boxes without the need for a mouse is very well done, and I'd say better than it is on the earlier VCi-300. The tempo sliders have a great feel to them, although if you're trying to match BPM using the on-screen read out in iTCH, it's quite difficult to get it perfect without fiddling for a little longer than you would like. The X-Fader has great feel to it, and is very sharp. The curve adjust feature has been retained (it's essential!). The x-fader just feels a lot sharper and better quality than on the earlier model. The channel volume faders WORK on this deck (unlike on the 300!). The only real negative (for me) is the main channel FX. I'm used to a Vestax VFX-1 unit, where I can selet my effect quickly by counting the "clicks" and reading the effect I'm selecting direct from the controller.... With the 380 and ITCH for 380, you spend too much time looking at your screen when choosing the effect, and setting the paramaters for the effect you are using is a fair amount more tricky on the new controller. Having the effect 1/1, 1/2, 1/4 etc on the VFX-1 was MUCH easier to set up. With the later version you have 2 FX boxes in ITCH per deck (1xPad FX, 1x Channel FX) and I'm just finding it much more of a battle to accurately set up the effect I want to use quickly. Of course, THIS IS THE PRICE to be paid for having your FX on board the deck instead of on a seperate controller. The FX do work VERY well though, they don't crash ITCH like they used to on the older deck! It's just one thing that will take time to get your head around I guess - I don't have the confidence to jump in with my FX on this deck, as I'm not sure what I'm going to get with it when I do....Im sure in time that will be resolved as I spend more and more time on it! Only other real "issue" for me is that the cue/pgm dials for headphone mix are on the front of the controller - something I don't really like on a mixer, but something I will live with! Don't get me wrong. This is a GREAT controller. It has EVERYTHING. It works VERY well, it's well illuminated, and you can easily tell which mode you have the controller in just at a glance. I looked at everything on the market when selecting my new deck. I went for this VCi-380 over everything else, as it has SO many features built in, while it retains portability. I think this deck wipes the floor with the NS6, and I also chose it over the DDj-S1 & DDJ-SX to name just a couple. With a Vestax controller, you KNOW what you are going to receive. A HIGH quality, portable DJ controller that can hold it's own against the "bigger" decks. I would reccomend the 380 to anyone. If you've owned a VCi before then you're getting more of the same, but better... If you've owned other controllers in the past, and you like them - then this is the deck for you. It's the ultimate in DJ controllers.
