Pioneer DJ PLX-CRSS12

The Pioneer DJ PLX-CRSS12 brings a new definition to the term “hybrid turntable”. 

It is a high quality turntable for analogue records and a feature packed, motorised,  digital controller. 

Built to improve on the acclaimed high quality sound of the acclaimed PLX-1000, the PLX-CRSS12 has a chassis made with vibration dampening materials including high-mass zinc die cast and 8mm thick resign. The power supply is built to eliminate transformer vibration suppress unwanted noise. Rubber tubes on the inside of the tone arm further help to isolate vibration, while the signal flows directly from the tonearm through to the gold plated outputs offering the truest analogue sound. 

Where the PLX-CRSS12 really comes to life, is the digital control it offers. 

You get tone-arm and skip free playback with Serato DJ Pro or Rekordbox by sending the control tone out through the RCA sockets. With the turntable in digital vinyl mode you can use the platter with any vinyl record to control the track playing, any movement you can do with a record, you can do with digital. 

The rotating spindle sends a timecode signal to your software, controlling your loaded track just like a record placed on the deck. Using the unique Magvel Clamp to hold any record on to the platter which immediately becomes your control vinyl. 

The Magvel Clamp can be adjusted in tightness to give you a heavier or lighter feel by easily turning the dial on the top. For even further adjustment, you can adjust the torque of the motor on the PLX-CRSS12 within the utility menu. There is also a brake adjustment with 3 different levels of stopping time. 

One other unique function is the Step Pitch control, not only is there a regular analogue pitch adjustment but also brand new step pitch. When activated the tempo slider changes the pitch in steps of half a note at a time which makes it possible to perform in a “tone play” manner.

Four customisable performance pads can be assigned to hot cues, loops or even stems control. 

These are also backlit in RGB to make them easily identifiable. These are also layered to easily jump from 1-4 to 5-8. 

A high resolution OLED display shows information including BPM, Key, deck number, software and the menu.

Other features to note are the dedicated “motor off” button to simulate the “power down” effect as well as the cue lamp that also doubles up as the strobe light.
