Connect with your Crowd
Get physical with the music. Too many DJ's these days look like they are checking their emails and to the audience this does not look engaging. With Touch-sensitive knobs, faders, and LED-guided touch strips the Traktor Kontrol 8 brings TRAKTOR software to life on vivid full-color displays, keeping you focused on performance – not on your laptop.
The S8’s touch-and-see workflow means you connect with your music – and with your crowd. It's really amazing how much a difference actually seeing the music waveforms on the controller itself really gets you intouch with the creative possiblities available to you. Now your hands AND eyes are focussed on the same piece of equipment and it really makes a huge difference to your attitude to performing
TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO’s Effects, Remix Decks, and track browsing really come to life on the full color displays. Two wide touch strips allow for pitch bending, track seeking, and vinyl scratch emulation.
The Sixteen color-coded performance pads transform the decks into powerful live performance controls. Trigger Remix Set cells, slice up and rearrange in new Traktor Freeze mode, tweak your loops, or improvise using hotcues – all within view, and within reach and wow, what a difference it makes
The S8 offers the most comprehensive connectivity on a TRAKTOR controller yet.
Four analog inputs with phono and mic preamps let you connect turntables, CDJs or other gear. Both XLR and RCA master outputs and ¼ inch booth outputs connect the TRAKTOR KONTROL S8 to any sound system imaginable.
24-bit/48kHz of built-in, pristine audio boosts output to levels designed for the most demanding situations. MIDI In and Out lets you sync TRAKTOR with synthesizers, drum computers, MASCHINE, or external effects.

Stunning. Delight to use. Quality everywhere in particular with the punchy sound output and the balanced main & booth options. Excellent. Loved the touched sensitive buttons. Loved even more connecting a couple of 'legacy' CDJ2000's and having "guest DJ's" join the evening set. What a versatile centre stage product. Sturdy construction, Confident feel to faders and pots, could not find anything bad to say about this, and despite its price range this is the best tracktor controller I have used, a step up from the DDJSX, as long as you don't mind a touch strip instead of jogs then I recommend this hands down, and the screens are a joy to use and are easy navigable, does everything you could wish and to top it all off it syncs perfectly to maschine studio etc and all other midi gear via midi dins, so this is the most flexible dedicated Traktor DJ controller their is and if traktor is your thing then it has to be this badboy.
Are STEMS the future of DJing? i don't know but they're certainly too exciting to be just ignored. with more & more releases coming all the time it's only going to get better. the S8 gives full control over stems tracks & the Traktor remix decks & is a joy to use. the sliders & knobs all feel just right when operated. the touch sensitive functions never cease to amaze anyone that sees it & the screens & illuminated buttons mean you can see exactly what you're doing. plenty of connectivity if you want to run cdj's or turntables through it. tbh i've only scratched the surface of what it's capable of & i learn new things everytime i use it. if you're considering one i recommend watching some of the youtube tutorials, you'll be amazed. this blurs the lines between producer & dj. if you really want to get creative & get into stems, (even better if you make your own) then this could be just the tool you've been waiting for :)
Unfortunately, I'm experiencing frequent crashes when using the remix decks and a general lag with the screens. I would not confident enough in the S8 to use it for a gig at the moment. Delivery was quick to NI but box was damaged (visibly bent and with a hole on one side) on arrival. Happy with my DJKit experience, just let down by Native Instruments and the courier.
My first step into a pc based controller setup and boy is this thing a beast! Can still use my CDJ's and Decks both as a standalone 4 channel mixer or with the timecoded CD's and vinyl (I'm using Scratch pro Mark 2). I was originally put off by the lack of jog wheels or pitch fader, but you can still get this with the timecode disks or if you have certain CDJ's link and use HID mode. I would thoroughly recommended looking on YouTube for walkthrough videos as they helped put any doubts I had to rest. Some reviews claim the controller mapping is locked, but this is not the case and can be mapped using the seperate bundled software. Overall worth every penny especially compared to some of Pioneer's pricing for similar kit.
Great product from NI . really good feathers in their you can learn lots of new thing to Djing from this S8 . Dj kit good customer team , i ever seen in the Uk . Good luck Guys . Keep it up .
i really like this controller, however there are a few niggles. the controller would probably benefit from having 4 remix deck sections instead of the 2, because if you are running 4 decks and all with stems, when swapping decks, from a to c for example, you end up having the upfaders in the wrong position for a stem you want to add or remove. and i don't like the touch strip. much prefer the jog wheels. plus when using the browser on the controller, it causes the gui on traktor to go a bit schizo. the controller itself is put together really well. the knobs feel good and are smooth, as are the faders, and the screens are really clear. very nice controller and something i would recommend
I've been mixing since I was 14 years old, and I must say I've never had as much fun since purchasing this new controller. I am a complete beginner when it comes to most of the settings, but very much looking forward to getting better equipped to handle it. . The unit was easy to set up, runs smooth as silk on my macbook pro, and contrary to other reviews that I read when researching which controller to get, it hasn't crashed once (famous last words!!) Very impressed so far, and would recommend it to everyone who came from the vinyl era, who's been a little intimidated by the digital generation. The build quality is so much better than I thought it was going to be, each fader and knob feels robust and for the price tag you couldn't ask for more.
Initially I was blown away by this controller and would have given it 5 stars. I didn't understand reviews which focussed on the negatives of its large size (it's a controller and two decks - what did you expect?) and they all complained about the price. It's two decks and a controller for under a grand, how is that "too expensive"? Have they seen what it would cost to get something to do the same thing from Pioneer?!?! I've not had it 3 months and it's lost a star and a half for several reasons - some hardware, but most software and long support response times from Native Instruments. For a "flagship" product parts of it have a very cheap feel to it. I'd rather pay more money for higher quality. The use of dark blue or dark red inking on a black background with no backlighting makes key controls impossible to read in the typical dark DJ environment. You really need to learn what's where by rote before going on the road with this controller. That's a negative. Also the rotary controls have a very cheap plastic feel and look to them with white "Position markers" that are often slightly offset from where they should be - the "center" position is frequently "slightly to the left or the right". For an OCD obsessive like me this is a bit disappointing on what is being sold as the "flagship" hardware for Traktor. You suddenly start to understand why Pioneer costs more. But the real reason the unit loses a star and has proved more disappointing over time is that the recent release of the 64-bit version of Traktor - version 2.8 - which many of us have been waiting for, appears to have gone through quality control without anybody thinking to test it with the Kontroller S8. It's turned what was a very good controller into an extremely average one. Grid marks precisely positioned in the software now appear offset in the wrong places on the waveforms on the Kontroller S8 display. When the Mac running the software goes into sleep mode the Kontroller S8 completely freezes up (it didn't do this before Traktor 2.8 or 2.8.1). Native Instruments were selling this on the basis of the hi-res displays meaning less looking at the laptop. Now with Traktor 2.8 the laptop is absolutely essential to getting correct display. And if you thought you could rely on using the in-built browser buttons to avoid looking at your laptop be prepared to have to edit all your metadata information on release titles, artists etc as the Kontroller display seriously crops them leaving you with tens or hundreds of tracks all seemingly the same - until you go back to your laptop to read the full information. The much-promised replacement for the laptop (to be used only to store music) this isn't! Native Instruments support is currently taking several weeks to respond to major issues with the Kontroller displays and lockups (presumably because 2.8 was such a major release and they've been inundated with bug reports and support calls), which is unacceptable to a working DJ who expects the company to do basic quality control on their releases, especially when used with their own hardware. It gets four stars because thankfully you can always go back to installing an older version of Traktor, when it mostly becomes a joy to use. But given what's happened with Traktor 2.8 I'm finding it very hard to expect great things in future releases and am now seriously considering jumping ship to Pioneer unless the company can get its act together over the next few months :-( Maybe I should have made that 3 stars and not 4!
I try lot of controller before I choose the S8. The first reason what I choose the S8, I hate the serato system. Much clear and easy the traktor program. The second reason, I like the colorful specs. I love the small monitor, better than see the laptop. All information I get it. And the price I think very good this pro kontroller
I have been looking for a controller for years, used to using vinyl / CDs but my music has all been digital for years and I have never been tempted by any other controller until this came out. I have only had it for a couple of weeks and have barely scratched the surface of all the features but so far I am very impressed with how easy i have adapted to it, it seems very intuitive and I have adapted to the way it operates easily and the remix decks are a great feature and easy use. Looking forward to using it more and finding more features. The service from djkit was speedy but the packaging could have been better as it took a battering during shipping.
Iv'e been waiting for a New controller off the shelf that works with traktor for a long time now and this was worth the wait - was a bit disappointed without the jog wheels but now after playing with them can't say i miss them , i don't scratch only used them for cueing and so the strips are perfect - the strips are larger than those on the the X1 MK2 and so are better to use and you have 2 so no little mistakes happening like on the X1 because it shares 1 strip. the displays are great very bright and the touch sensitive buttons perfect only had it a day but can't wait to learn this unit inside out.
