Firstly, I'm going to get the one bad thing about this cab out of the way: the dreaded hiss a lot of users notice. Yes, it probably shouldn't be hissing, however it's not distracting enough to go knocking down the review score, and it certainly doesn't damage the reputation of an otherwise great speaker, in my opinion. For the size, it's about as heavy as you'd expect, but only having the one handle does make it that bit more cumbersome. I've had these running for four hours non-stop in hot and humid rooms, and although the amp gets warm, it's not problematic - when EV says it's a cool-running unit, I have no reason to believe the omission of a fan was detrimental mistake. ELX is the only current EV powered series not to have DSP, but I personally don't think this is an issue as the old-fashioned amber 'limit' light makes it easy for me to see when I'm pushing them. To be fair, I've rarely seen this light come on (and even when it does, it 'blinks' for a fraction of a second), so I'm very satisfied that, when the gains are set correctly, these speakers can take a hell of a hammering! They produce a surprising amount of bottom end for a 12" cab rated at 1000w peak, although they really come into their own when crossed over with a sub (I use an EKX15SP). I've seen all the comparisons with more expensive tops; I doubt they're quite as loud as the QSC K12s, but at a significantly lower price, I don't think you can really take much away from the ELX112p. Despite the very easily marked finish, I've managed to keep them scratch and scuff free for the six months I've had them. Handle with care, and you'll be fine. Overall, you'd be hard-pushed to find a better sounding cab for the price. The ELX112p can get pretty loud (especially with subs) and produces a decent amount of low-end for a 12". I've done sports halls and school gyms with these, and even on their own they go a long way (but perhaps not all the way) towards filling the room with a nice, balanced sound. Four of these and two decent subs, and I doubt there'd be many venues you couldn't do!
