DJing has progressed to a new era with the evolution of digital media. In a world that was once first dominated by vinyl, then CDs, and now the emerging USB and streaming devices, it’s time to revolutionize the DJ booth, because right now as a DJ you make a choice between DJing with a turntable, a turntable and software, or a CDJ/Controller. No one device has ever managed to give you the flexibility to choose depending on your performance, style or your audience.
That is, until now.
Denon DJ is proud to introduce the SC3900: Digital Turntable and Media Controller with 9-inch Active Platter. Utilizing a completely redesigned High-Torque Direct Drive Motor that exactly mirrors the feel of vinyl, the SC3900 brings home that familiar feel but with the choice of CD, USB, Software, or even a networked Media server as your source of tracks.
Do you own the Denon SC3900? Why not write a review based on your experience with it.
Where to start. A awesome unit which feels like working off a technics 1210, brings old school dj'ing back. Comes with its own software which I haven't tried yet, due to working off Cd and memory stick. A must have for any Dj .
I bought two of these based on my previously excellent experience with Denon products 20 years ago when they first introduced DJ CD mixing decks, and a favourable video review on digitaldjtips.com. I very much regret my purchase and feel I have been sold a turkey and lead down the garden path by those supposedly independent reviewers for the following reasons: - The decks are mostly reliant on "Engine" software for maintaining your digital collection. The software was launched as an "early version" with promises of frequent updates and new features. At the time of writing the software hasn't been updated in over a year and has a broken "Search" facility making hours of entering detailed meta data about your digital media completely redundant. This software crashes all the time and is not fit for purpose in my view - on PC or Mac. The official support forums where you can raise issues delete anything even hinting at anything remotely negative about Denon products. This is why presumably the most recent thread about this deck or software is dated mid 2012! One user complained that he couldn;t get the Search facility to work on the Mac version of the software and asking if it is broken as it never returns any results whatever you key in. He's had no replies. When I posted that I had the same issue on the PC version of the software and raising my suspicions that the software just didn't work the post was deleted with no explanation less than 24 hours later. - My unit arrived with a two pin European plug (like those used on old electric shavers) and it took weeks to get the correct replacement. In the end DJ Kit came to my rescue because Denon who'd shipped the incorrect plug presumably couldn't care less. When I asked on the Denon official support forums if anybody else had received the unit with the incorrect plug - you guessed it - the post was deleted. The hardware is nice, but there is no support and this is an obsolete product without decent software to support it for modern DJing. After complaining very loudly on Twitter about how I wish I'd never wasted money on Denon and warning any DJ considering Denon equipment to avoid them and how I wished I'd bought Pioneer instead Denon Pro DJ contacted me to ask why I'd said I regretted buying Denon. I gave them a long list of issues/problems. Then never heard from them again. If you're in any doubt go check their official web site boasting such nonsense as "Brand new for 2010" or look at the forums and how much traffic there is and how questions that can imply anything negative about the products vanish within an hour or two of being posted. This is a company that just can't be bothered with its latest products. So why should you be? The SC3900 featured as a Top 5 controller in last year's DJ Digital Tips (free) Guide to controllers. In this year's guide Denon isn't even mentioned. My guess is they actually tried using it in the real world after their initial enthusiastic review was completed, or saw that the company had been sold off to yet another third party who don't seem to be doing anything to rescue the brand! The new guide appeared too late for me, but hopefully in time to stop others wasting money on this stuff. Denon? Just say no!
