Technical Specs

The MPK mini keyboard is ideal for quickly entering notes and phrases into your computer. The velocity-sensitive keys allow you to accurately express dynamics, while accessing different pitch ranges is done instantly through dedicated Octave Up and Down buttons. Create sparkling, staccato leads and driving bass-lines in a variety of time denominations and patterns with MPK mini's built-in Arpeggiator. A Tap-Tempo button gives you the ability to quickly adjust the Arpeggiator clock which is essential if you're looking to stay in sync with a band. A Sustain button holds notes after releasing your hand from the keyboard allowing you the opportunity to easily pound pads and twist knobs, with no pedal required.
MPK mini's 8 back-lit, velocity-sensitive pads are based on Akai Professional’s MPC line of iconic music production stations. Great for firing one-shot samples and sequencing drum patterns, you can use the pads to send note information, MIDI CCs, or even program changes. Pressing the Bank button will quickly toggle between 2 banks of pads giving you access to 16 pads in total. Additionally, the MPK mini has 8 assignable Q-Link knobs to control virtually any parameter in your software.
MPK mini works plug-and-play with Mac and PC and requires no software driver installation or wall power for operation. It has four memory banks for programming and recalling settings appropriate to your favorite software programs. The included software editor lets you quickly map MPK mini's controls as well.
Go mobile without losing control with MPK mini.

AKAIs mini MIDI Keyboard w/ MIDI drumpads
Great for those just getting into music production - this midi keyboard is easily the best choice over similar entry level midi keyboards. Ideally, you want something 1st of all to input notes into Fruity Loops, Ableton or whatever DAW you have chosen to use. The mini keys are velocity sensitive, and can cover 5 Octaves using the up /down keys. Easy to set up - and is auto detected by any DAW as soon as its midi to usb lead is plugged in. Its USB powered too so no mains power needed. The built in Arpeggiator has a tempo key, as well 4 built in programs can also be easily set up how you want it - it just a click or two - as is the drum pads - 8 velocity sensitive pads, in 2 banks - give you 16 separate assignable pads to any midi command. Also are 8 MIDI assignable rotary knobs again easily assignable to any function in the DAW or any VST instrument as a plugin - or in a standalone version - such as Arturia's Spark Drum Synthesizer. Also as all midi can be remapped, its possible to map it to dj software - like to trigger cue points/ loos / samples etc, with the pads - 1 bank for cues, one for loops and the keys remapped as sample triggers. Anyway - a versatile entry midi keyboard - but as its by AKAI - you know its going to be anything but basic. Great. 5 Stars ******

!
This is good if you go around with your equipment a lot because i don't think it is studio equipment, it is more a carry round for messing around when your away or something, If you want studio equipment then get a proper midi keyboard but if you are after a carry around then choose this or the novation impulse 25 or the novation ultra/mini nova.
